As the midnight breeze fluttered his overcoat, he carefully checked all of his equipment. He clicked his night vision goggles on and sprang into action, jumping from the rooftop. He counted the floors as he fell, carefully aimed the grapple gun and shot. The steam engines made so much noise no one could hear him. He swung on the cable, kicking his way into the glass window, rolling in the floor and onto his feet. Success.

The door on the other side of the room opened with a mute click. Preferring action over thought for once, he ran. Pneumatic pistons on his boots clicked and clacked on every step, doubling the ground covered, increasing his speed. Grandstepping Boots, she called it. She never saw them working, he remembered. His determined grin covered by the gas mask, he kicked the guard hard and fast as soon as the door was opened. Muffling the guard's cry with his gloved hand, he stepped out. No lights. Steam engines cackling maniacally far away.

He opened the door slowly. At least two people inside. Grabbing a pair of small ceramic spheres from his pocket, he rolled inside as silent as a cat. He threw the spheres towards the center of the room, they broke with a dry sound and grey mist spread out of them, covering the area. She called it her very own Fog of War. They turned towards him, drawing flint pistols. He cursed under his breath and charged forward, the grey mist following him as a shadow. They missed. A few seconds later, her Fog of War did the job and they fell asleep.

In the drawers, he found the document he was looking for. As he opened the window to leave, the loud and terrible sound of gears turning forced him to look behind. The security bot was huge. Metal plates protected the clockwork mechanisms that made him move, the steam engine that gave him power. Gas would be useless against that. A metal fist smashed through the window, forcing him to backflip into safety. Martial arts were no match for that. Fortunately, he had one last gadget. He grabbed the small mechanical spider and throw it into the bot. It fell lifeless to the floor.

Mechanical malfunction. Typical.

And charge. And fist and fury and kick. And painful, blissful victory.

It's based on this song [link]

It ended up being a bit longer than I expected. Tried to avoid a title drop but it was just so fitting I went along with it. At first I was going to use thunder, autumn and rain on this but writing something without those elements was refreshing.

Glad you liked it. ^^
The song is very good and it's easy to get inspiration from instrumental music, so it helped a lot. It was good experience, I think I'll try doing that more often. :)
